Ian Macleod Distillers targets travel retail expansion for Edinburgh gin

Ian Macleod Distillers is focusing on growing Edinburgh gin’s footprint in travel retail, with an eye on the increasing demand for craft gin prodcuts.

The company’s expansion plans follow last year’s acquisition of the Spencerfield Spirit Company and its flagship brand Edinburgh gin.

Edinburgh gin: Leading the portfolio which is earmarked for expansion in travel retail

According to Ian Macleod Distillers, the brand has grown year-on-year and has a strong presence in UK airports, following its first listing with Dufry-owned World Duty Free at Edinburgh Airport.

Edinburgh’s portfolio includes the floral, juniper-forward Original Edinburgh Gin, Edinburgh Seaside Gin and the Edinburgh Cannonball Gin which is described as “punchy and navy strength”.

The brand’s fruit gin liqueur range offers four flavours: Raspberry, Elderflower, Rhubarb and Ginger and, the most recent addition, Plum and Vanilla.

“The target is to expand distribution to overseas locations, notably those that attract UK passengers and countries where there is a growing market for craft gin,” the company stated.

Ian Macleod Distillers Travel Retail Director Andy Lane said: “Edinburgh Gin has had a lot of successes internationally, with continued growth year-on-year. It will join the Eurotrade offer at Munich Airport, and onboard Viking Line in Scandinavia, with other European destinations to follow.”
